What Do You Believe & Why Does it Matter

Do you believe that life is a battle?  Do you believe life is like a dance?  Do you believe that life is fair or unfair?  And what does it matter what I believe anyway?
 
Our beliefs start forming at birth – and some scientific evidence even states before conception – we adopt our parents’ beliefs, beliefs from our education, cultural upbringings and impactful events in our life influence our belief systems.   Most of these beliefs are deeply rooted in our subconscious mind and we are often unaware that we hold the beliefs that we do until we start to doing self-discovery work which usually comes from a desire to change the results that we are experiencing in our lives. 
 
Our beliefs about the world impact our perception, which impacts our emotions which impacts our actions which ultimately create the results we have in our life.  If you want to change your results you must change your beliefs. 
 
How do you do this?  The first thing to recognize is that it can be next to impossible to change without help because the beliefs that have created your current results have a very strong gravitational pull, and just like habits, they keep pulling you back.   In saying that, you now have awareness that you have the power to shift your beliefs and that awareness is the first step so celebrate the awareness.  

Start paying attention to what you are saying.  Do you find yourself saying things like:

  • “I need to tackle this problem”
  • “Bad things happen in threes”
  • “Money doesn’t grow on trees” 
  • “The early bird gets the worm”
  • "I'm always late"
  • "I can't afford it"
  • "This always happens TO ME"

While all of these seem to be simple everyday sayings they are a window into your thoughts and into your beliefs.  Pay attention to the words and phrases that you are using and as you notice yourself saying something that is not in service to the results that you would love in your life shift your words to something that is in alignment with what you would love to create. 

Remember, this takes time, often we have years or decades of programming that causes us to think and behave in a certain way so be kind with yourself as you begin this reprogramming.
