10 Ways to Escape a Bad Mood

Here are 10 things you can do in 60 seconds or less to change your mood! These are simple, yet highly effective things to prevent the energy spiral downward. So if you notice yourself feeling drained, frustrated, exhausted, disappointed, or upset, these are things that you can put in place right now to shift your energy and your mood, so you can change your momentum.

Here are 10 things, each taking 60 seconds or less:

  1. Play music and dance around. It doesn’t matter if it’s classical music, rock and roll, or your favourite hit from the 80s, just put on some music that feels really good to you. Listen to the music and if you want to elevate it even more, dance to the music.

  2. Get outside. Even if it’s just opening a window, or standing out in your front porch, get out in nature. Nature is one of our most powerful refuelers!

  3. Power pose. Power posing is taking a power stance, and it has incredible research from Amy Cuddy behind it. Place your hands on your hips, feet hip length apart, and just stand in your power for 60 seconds. You could do that Superman pose, or put both arms or one arm in the air. What that does is it starts to change your physiology, and you’ll feel better.

  4. Smile. Lots of times, our natural resting face isn’t a smile, but research has shown just by smiling, you’ll start to feel better. Don’t wait for something to make you smile, just choose to smile, and again it will change your physiology. So make sure you’re smiling right now!

  5. Laughter. It truly is the best medicine! Most of us have a conditional based laughter. We wait for something funny to happen before we laugh, and if you were just to cause yourself to start laughing right now, a genuine laughter will follow. Put on a funny youtube video, call a friend, tell them a joke, do something that’s going to activate laughter in your life.

  6. Recall Positive Memories. Pull up some old vacation photos! By recalling those memories – times where you were happy, where you were on vacation, where you were relaxed – by looking at those photos your mental faculty of your memory is triggered, and you’ll start to feel better. So pull out those old photos and take a quick peruse of those!

  7. Spend time with your pet. Go play with your dog, spend some time petting your cat, talking to your bird – spend some time with those furry friends! Their unconditional love will certainly help you to shift your energy and feel better.

  8. Call a friend. Call somebody with the intention of giving them a compliment, or asking how you can help them. When we’re in service, it makes us feel good.

  9. Physical activity. Are you sitting down right now? Just the very act of standing up and changing that physiology will make you feel better. Whether it’s doing some jumping jacks on the spot, or doing some yoga stretches, moving your body is a powerful way to shift your emotional and your mental energy.

  10. Tidy up. if you love order in your life, spend the next 60 seconds and tidy up your office or a drawer, or pick up some things that are on your floor. By bringing order into your physical environment, it’s going to help you bring order into your mental environment.

    And a bonus one, number 11 and one of the most powerful energy shifters:

  11. Gratitude. Take 60 seconds right now and write down things that you’re grateful for. By really looking for the blessings in your life, you’ll start to feel better as you remember those blessings, and when you’re in that energy of gratitude.

So there’s actually 11 things that you can do in 60 seconds or less to change your mood, change your mindset, and create a new result.
