Feeling Behind? Do These 3 Things!

Are you feeling behind in your life?

It’s something that I hear from every age group, if you’re in your 30s or 40s or 50s or 60s or 70s or 80s, there can be this feeling of “I thought I would be further ahead than I am right now.” And if that’s you today, I want to share with you three ways to move past that feeling so that you can really be filled with this feeling of joy and gratitude and like you’ve got lots of life ahead of you still!

I have three ways to move past feeling like you're behind in life, so you can really be filled with a feeling of joy and gratitude. You've got lots of life ahead of you still!

Celebrate the Wins and Successes

Tool number one is to celebrate the wins and the successes. Our brains are so wired to look for what’s not going right, or what’s missing, and it’s up to us to retrain or rewire our brains to recognize how far we’ve come, all the good in our lives, and to really celebrate the successes. Take your attention off of everything that you thought you would have accomplished, and really focus on everything you’ve accomplished so far. This is one of the exercises that I give to my clients to really help them to raise their vibration or to feel better. They sit down and take just 10 minutes to think about all of the successes and everything they’ve accomplished in their lives. Every time I have somebody do this exercise, I always hear from them, “Wow! I’ve done way more than I thought I did! I’m way further ahead than I realized.” It’s simply taking the attention off of what’s not happening and putting the attention on what you have accomplished.

Stop Comparing

Tool number two is to stop comparing. It’s been said that comparison is the thief of joy. It’s so easy to look at what other people have accomplished, what they are doing, and to compare our results to other people’s results. That comparison is called comparison despair. It’s a killer of dreams. It usually leaves us with this feeling of not being good enough, not being far ahead enough, not being adequate. That can spiral us into a sea of negativity and really prevent us from going after our dreams. What would it look like to stop comparing yourself to other people and recognize that you are on your own unique journey?

And again, back to step number one, celebrate your uniqueness! Celebrate everything you’ve accomplished, celebrating your unique dreams and goals. Take your eye off what everybody else is doing and really keep it on you, and you living your best life today.

Look at Your Past With a Kind Glance

Tool number three is looking to your past with a kind glance. One of the things that can trigger the feeling of being behind in life, or not doing what you were meant to do, or thinking you should be further ahead, is carrying around regret or resentment, where maybe you regret a decision that was made or not made.

When you can get to a place where you recognize that all of your life experience is what made you who you are today, what would it take to be able to generate a state of gratitude for all of your life experiences that you’ve had up until this point? The successes, the failures, the mistakes, all of the things that went well, all of the things that didn’t go well, and recognize that all of those life experiences is what makes you uniquely you. It’s also the opportunity and the learnings from all of that life experience that are going to help take you into your vision, your goals, new results.

Get to a place where you can recognize that “I am so much more than my history.” “I am so much more than my mistakes.” Make the decision to learn from those mistakes, learn from those failures, so they’re no longer holding you down like an anchor, but instead they’re propelling you forward into your future.

If you’re feeling like “I thought I’d be further ahead in life than I am”, take some time this week to celebrate your successes. Celebrate all of the accomplishments that you’ve had in your life. Set comparison down, and really celebrate you. And cast a kind glance on your past.

As you do those three things, it will help you live your best life now, so that when you get to the end of your life, you’re not regretting the things that you didn’t do – you’re celebrating that incredible life that you lived. And just know it is never too late for a fresh start!

Here is to you living a life you love,

Stacey
