Are you finding yourself going home and crying, or feeling overwhelmed, and you just can’t get ahead?
I’ve had the honour of supporting many people go from where they were struggling and really feeling that discontent and that longing, into living lives that they love. Sometimes the thing that causes them to pick up the phone and get that support is they recognize that if they don’t do something, they’re really on the verge of burnout.
Is that where you are today? Do you feel like you can’t imagine one more thing happening, or being added to your plate, because it could just absolutely crush you or crumble you? Are your ready to get out of that dark hole and really start seeing the light again?
In today’s message, I want to give you one very simple tool that you can do in just seconds that can help you to start shifting your energy, and move from burnout, despair, overwhelm, and gradually pull you out so that you’re thriving again and you feel like you’re actually moving forward and progressing. And that tool is your breath. So do this with me right now, take a nice deep breath in through your nose, and exhaling. When we take a long slow breath in through our nose, we go from that fight-flight-freeze response and more into the rest-relax-digest energy.
The nervous system starts to relax when you take that breath, and you calm your nervous system down. You’re now in a space where you can think more clearly, act more clearly, it’ll calm you down.
So just imagine right now, taking multiple deep breaths throughout the day. Calming yourself down, slowing yourself down, so you’re no longer in that fight or flight, on that verge of burnout, and you now become more in control. As you start to slow the pace of your life down, you can start to ask different questions and contemplate different things.
Life is no longer coming at us, but we’re now in control of it. We can start dreaming again, we can start taking different actions, but it all starts with this very simple yet highly effective tool and that’s taking a breath.
When you find yourself going into overwhelm, spinning, just take a moment, take a breath, and watch what happens.
It’s the first step towards you living a life you love.
