Do you have this Secret Weapon on your team?

When I worked as a general manager for an organization, we mentored entrepreneurs in their businesses. They would come to us with little to no business experience, often they had taken one business class in school but mostly had this entrepreneurial spirit and this desire to be good business owners.

We would mentor them in all facets of owning a business; in human resources, marketing, management, and finances. In a very short period of time, they would experience these really great results inside their new businesses, and oftentimes more seasoned business owners would look to that business model, and they would say I wish I had that kind of support when I was just starting out.

That mentorship is so important and key to really cut the learning curve down so that we don’t have to learn everything by trial and error. We saw the learning curve cut down by three to five years!

I’m proud to volunteer for a couple of organizations where they partner new business owners up with mentors, and as mentors, we really help to guide and support them in getting started and really growing.

If you really look at highly successful people, one of the people that they have on their team to support them is a mentor or a coach. The reason for that is we can’t see our own blind spots. We don’t know what we don’t know. We need that outside perspective from somebody who’s not directly involved in our business, our problems and our challenges, and by somebody who really understands how to create results.

I actually saw a business grant the other day, and a requirement of that grant is that you had to have mentorship inside of it. I thought that was really telling, that people who are offering grants and finances understand the importance and power of mentorship and coaching to support you as you’re really moving towards your dreams and your goals.

So who’s on your team? Who do you have as a mentor, as a support system, as that coach to really help you accelerate your growth?

I know that it’s been a game changer in my own life, as I’ve hired my own mentors and my own coaches to really help me get that clarity about where I want to go, to hold me accountable, to continue to inspire and to motivate me and to give me those tools, so that I can really create new results and growth inside of my life and inside of my business.
