How Did I End Up Here? Living By Design

Do you ever wake up and feel like you’re in the movie Groundhog Day? Every day it’s the same thing, again and again. Or maybe you feel like you’re stuck on the hamster wheel of life, and you’re wondering how did I get here? And how do I get off? If you’re watching this video, then you know you were meant for more.

I’m Stacey Berger, transformational coach in both life and business. Chances are you’ve fallen into the trap of living your life by default rather than by design.

Living by default means that we’re simply repeating the same patterns over and over again, we have the same struggles, we have the same arguments, we have the same aches and pains, today looked very similar to yesterday and the day before and the day before. We fall into these default patterns where we’re living our life based on what we currently know is possible for us, based on our conditions, based on our circumstances, based on what we believe we should be doing at this age and stage of life. It’s so easy to get stuck.

As you’re starting to think about living a life by default, what patterns or what conditions or circumstances have created your current results? Maybe it’s the job that you’re in, and you feel stuck in that job? Maybe you’re caring for elderly parents or grandparents, or you have young kids? Chances are you have a condition or a circumstance right now that feels like it’s holding you back from really creating the results you want.

Your circumstances and your conditions should not dictate your life.

Your circumstances and your conditions should not dictate your life, and here’s a few examples of people who didn’t let their conditions and circumstances dictate their life.

If we look to Einstein, Einstein didn’t speak for the first three years of his life. Thomas Edison, he had 10,000 failures as he was living into his vision of producing a system of illumination for our planet. Diana Nyad, maybe you’ve seen her recent movie where she had a vision for her life, and she’s now in her 60s and everybody’s telling her this vision cannot happen, it’s not possible. And she looked at those conditions and those circumstances and said I’m more powerful than those, and she set out on her vision. Consider this, Walt Disney was told that he did not have enough imagination – he was fired from a newspaper for lacking imagination.

What idea did somebody maybe plant a seed in your mind that you’re not good enough, that’s not possible, you can’t because…

So let’s step off that hamster wheel, let’s get out of Groundhog Day, and let’s start living a life by design. And the way that we do that is by starting with a vision. Having a clear picture of the results that you want to create. In the absence of having that vision, we will continue to repeat those patterns of our past.

Today’s topic on YouTube

So what would you love?

Let’s imagine for a moment that you could dream it up any way you wanted, and for a moment just imagine that you are living a life of your wildest dreams in every area. If your mind wants to try to pick up the “how”, we’re going to put the how on hold here, and simply focus on what you would love.

If you’re not sure what you would love and what that vision is, take a look at your current results. Notice where the discontent is, notice where you’re not happy, notice what you wake up complaining about. Take that as information and flip the script. If it wasn’t that, what would it be? If you weren’t working 60 hours a week, how many hours would you love to be working? If you weren’t feeling tired and worn out and exhausted, how would you love to feel? Vibrant, energized?

Take what it is that you don’t want and flip that into what you would love, what you don’t want is really good information to help you create that vision. Start formulating that vision. Having that clear picture of where it is that you want to go, and then the key is make a decision for it.

You’re making a decision, where you’re saying I am tired of that old life, I’m not doing that anymore. I’m making a decision for myself. I’m making a decision for my life. Today is the day I’m saying yes to my dreams. I’m saying no to the fear, to the worry, to the doubt, and I’m saying yes to that part of me that knows that I was meant for more.

Is today your day? Are you ready to decide that today is your day? It’s a line in the sand moment.

You’re going for your dream – and once you make that decision, fear will rise up.

Fear is going to be a player on your journey into that vision. One of the keys in overriding that fear is take action. Take a baby step. Take some sort of action step in the direction of your dream. What’s one thing you can do today, where you move from living by default to living by design. Maybe you’re driving to work a different way today. Maybe you’re freshening up that resume, or you’re going to go for that walk. What’s one action step you can take today? And as you take that baby step, you start moving the energy, you start changing patterns, and more opportunities and ideas and resources will start to reveal themselves to you.

Today is your day. You you were meant for so much more. The very fact that you are watching this video, you know you were meant for more. So what would you love? What would you love to create for your life? Decide that today is the day, and start taking action in service of that dream.

And imagine one year from now where you could be to really support you in getting greater clarity on what your passion is, what your purpose is.

I’ve created a free “Live on purpose” toolkit to help you discover your passion, your purpose. So go ahead, download that today – get started. Today is your day.
