Uplevel Your Self Care – It’s Not What You May Think

Do you make time in your life for self-care?

I am going to challenge you to start to look at self-care a little differently.

Self-care can often feel like something that we have to do for ourselves in order to reward ourselves or take care of ourselves outside of our daily routine. Self-care to you might be a dinner out, it may be a manicure, a massage, having that bubble bath, a glass of wine in the evening. Think about self-care and what you’re currently doing for self-care. One of the pieces around self-care that I work with my clients too is what would it look like to build a lifestyle of self-care, where self-care isn’t something you have to take time for outside of your regular rhythm of your day, but what if your entire life was a life of self-care?

What would that look like? What would that feel like?

Self-care is something really that we’re called to do in everyday life.

Self-care looks like nurturing our bodies with the right food, because we love ourselves, because we just appreciate our bodies and what they do for us. It’s a lifestyle of feeding our bodies and fueling our bodies.

Self-care is movement, and how are you physically moving your body? And when we take care of ourselves both from a nutrition and a movement perspective, that builds a lifestyle of self-care.

Self-care is also building a lifestyle where you’re nurturing yourself with great people around you.

We know that when we hang out with toxic people, with negative people, it impacts how we feel. It impacts our body, it impacts our energy, so who do you spend your time with? Do you have a lifestyle of nurturing yourself with people who lift you up, who light you up, who encourage you, who support you?

Self-care is having a life where you’re doing things with your time that you love, where you’re passionate about your work, you’re passionate about your hobbies.

And so self-care, again if we flip that, is not something to do when you’re feeling so stressed out and overwhelmed that you have to go for that weekend away.

It’s really building this entire lifestyle in all areas of our life, where we’re caring for ourselves by doing more and more of what we love.

So as you’re thinking about your life right now, is your life one of self-care? It’s not going to be perfect, and yes we still want to be able to take those weekends away and treat ourselves and do those things that we really enjoy on special occasions, but where that really becomes just part of who we are.

Self care isn’t a survival mechanism, where you’re so burnt out, THEN you go do some self-care.

So are you living a life of self-care? Are you living a life that you love where you have pieces in your day that are just things that are nurturing and caring for yourself? What would it look like if you dialed that up, doing more of what you love. You know what you love based on your energy and how it makes you feel.

If we were to build a lifestyle of self-care, imagine how that would feel!
