Have you ever found yourself trying to decide what the next step is? If something is the right fit for you? Maybe you are in an argument between your heart and your head?
Decisiveness is the hallmark of all successful people and it is a skill that can be learned. Here are a few tools to help you make decisions that will help you live in harmony with your dreams.
Move Away from the Pros & Cons
I used to be the queen of the pro and con list. I loved getting out my notebook, drawing a t-chart and writing down why I should do something on the left side and why I shouldn't on the right. If this is you, take a breath and put the pen down. Pros and cons are in the land of logic where your desire and discontentlive in the land of the soul and it is from the soul that we want to make our decisions. Learn to ask yourself "What Would I Love?"
Move Beyond the Peanut Gallery
There is both the external peanut gallery (what others think and say) and the internal peanut gallery (what you tell yourself) and you want to move beyond those two peanut galleries and listen only to your most trusted advisor: your Self - with a capital S. As Howard Thurman said, "Don't ask what the world needs, ask what makes YOU come alive, and go do it, because what the world needs is more people who have come alive." If you need support in making a decision seek someone out who is already doing what you want to be doing, or that is experiencing the results in their life that you want to be experiencing.
Is there a way that instead of being an "either or" decision, could it be a "yes and". Be open to the possibility that you do not need to choose between two wonderful options but maybe there is a way that they can work in conjunction. As long as you are open to that possibility you will be inspired to think of your situation differently and therefore will have access to other possible solutions.
Make a Decision
If it's a 'yes' or a 'no' or even deciding that you will make the decision by a certain date. Do something. 'Waiting and seeing' is not a decision. If you want your results to change you will be required to make a decision and the sooner you decide the sooner you will see changes.
Remember, making decisions is a trait of successful people. If you have struggled with this up until now, start small. Start making decisions quicker about what's for dinner, what to wear, what to do on the weekend, etc. As you practice leaning into decision making when it comes time to make decisions with a more significant impact you will be better skilled.
Start with deciding that today will be a great day!
To living a life you love,
